Designing the Sensual Home

It's more than a few pictures and flower arrangements, but also includes how one moves from room to room, and how they emotionally react while doing so.

Designing the Sensual Home takes a journey through each area of your home... through each doorway and hallway, to each bedroom, bathroom, and even the closets.

Sensual Home Design

Helping connect Design with your own personal taste involves more than matching paint colors and fabric samples.  It's the art of combining things you have, things you love, things you want and things you need... and doing it in a way that makes you feel good.

Follow Suzanne through a Tactile Design Experience....  Designing for the Senses.  And learn how to incorporate these planning practices into your own home or office space.

Designing the Sensual Home is more than just creating a romantic and relaxing bedroom.  It takes a journey through each area of your home... through each doorway and hallway, to each bedroom, bathroom, and even the closets.

What doe this mean?
Think of your five senses and break it down.

Eyes: What can you see? What do you want to see?  Is there enough Light? Task Lighting?
Nose: What can you smell?  What do you want to smell? Is it fresh, is it musty?
Mouth: Taste?  Can you taste something?
Ears: What sort of sound can you hear?  Is it NOISY? Soothing?
Touch:  What tactile elements are in the room... ? What does the floor feel like?  Is it too hot? Too cold?  Is there a draft? Does the space need circulation?  A new window? A ceiling fan?

Do you want to bring the outdoors in, or the Indoors Out?  Creative outdoor Landscape LivingSpaces are an additional space where life happens... so don't forget that space...

Once all the elements are addressed, then you have a starting point for your space.  The next question is what to put in there.  How are you using the space?  What do you already have? What do you want to keep?  What is the function of the room?  Office, Living Room, or Kitchen... where are you and your family going to sit, work, or play? What do you want to invest in?

When you buy a large investment piece, what are you buying? A sofa because you need something to sit on. A large sofa because you have 3 kids, 2 dogs, and 4 cats? You need leather because you like the feel?  You have an antique from your family that MUST be incorporated.  You have family photos that you'd like to put into a collage gallery with matching frames?  You have 23 windows and hate mini-blinds and want curtains or fabric, how much is that going to cost?  How long will it take? What is our budget?

So the questions can be overwhelming... but with some realistic planning and an game plan, your ideas can be realized.

A Little Inspiration...

What are some simple ways to change your view?  In your home or office?  Your Bedroom? Your Patio?  Or your Balcony?  What about your sofa, your dining room?   In 2024, without spending unnecessary time, money, or energy, we will be doing a complete renovation of the Gibson Gallery.   Art will be take down, inventoried, and reorganized. Walls will be cleaned up with some fresh paint.  Some curtains will be changed.  Seats in the dining room will be recovered. The bar stools were done last year and I'm happy with those colors, so will keep that earth tones and  Miscellaneous books and outdated knicknacks will be organized and stored.  Maybe it is time to box some things up for the kids (young adults) to store until they are in their own place(s). Paintings and Family Photos are going to be re-framed, New Photos Framed and hung. How are you going to approach your 2024?   New, Fresh, Different? Space Planning, Color Cons...

What is Interior Design?

Interior Design... for me is the art of combining the artistic side of life with the practcal part of living.  Making a space where you live, work, or play fun, functional, and enjoyable are all important elements, and thought about together will create a coheisive design. Where do I begin? I initally ask the homeowner about the space.  The more I know about you and the uses for the space will help in the complete design process.  Here are a few simple questions to get started. What is the use of the room? What do you want to accomplish in the room? How do you feel when you are in this room? How do you react when others come into the room? Think of your 5 senses... Eyes: What can you see? What do you want to see? Nose: What can you smell?  What do you want to smell? Mouth: Taste?  Can you taste something? Ears: What sort of sound can you hear?  Is it NOISY? Soothing? Touch:  What tactile elements are in the room... ? Of course, B...
